The Personal Support Specialist

State Of Maine Certificate Course was a program that was created in 2002-2003 and is presently being updated.  The curriculum was born out of a need to expand the personal care content for the assisted livings in the State and to increase the health care work force by cross training direct care staff which enables them to work in home care, assisted livings, adult day centers and some group homes. It also gives the health care industry more options and the staff member a career pathway. This Certification can be applied toward the CRMA Certification and to the Certified Nursing Assistant State of Maine program. The Personal Support Specialists training replaced the Personal Care Attendant and the Residential Care Specialist Certifications as of July 1, 2003.

Home Health Aide Certification

This 16-hour Course consisting of curriculum review, skills demonstration and an orientation to role of a Certified Nursing Assistant/ Licensed Nursing Assistant who will be functioning as s Home Health Aide in Medicare (federally funded) programs. The purpose of this Course is to ensure that each of these health care workers have the same standard of learning and competencies. Saco River Education uses a multi-media approach to this training including computer based curriculum review, video workshops, one on one instruction with the trainer and hands on group learning. SRE currently works with a number of home care agencies to provide this training in a cost effective, timely manner.

Continuing Education for Direct Care Workers, CNA, RCS1, BHP, HS1, DSP

This is Saco River Education’s comprehensive Continuing Education Program. Developed by professionals in their fields and delivered with our user friendly platform, these classes provide a variety of relevant and interesting topics for every Direct Care Worker. Each of our classes are narratedand have an “instant scoring” format for the class quiz which allows the student to know immediately whether or not they have passed. The classes are considered as one-hour of continuing education. SRE maintains the employee record, produces class reports and provides the student / Provider with a Certificate of Completion for each completed class.
